I love giving gifts wrapped this way. Usually I use a cotton that can double as a sheet or burp cloth. But for this baby, the color of the wrap was more important. This was as close as I could get to gold.
Unfortunately I did not have time to get silk and I lack the skill to do a fine hand rolled hem. (Must learn to do that at some point, however.
This synthetic was a bit of a bear to work with. I ended up using a zigzag stitch then trimmed close to the stitching, then turned and edge stitched for the narrow hem. I could not get the fabric and narrow hemmer to work together and a simple straight stitch was not enough for me to grab onto to for turn under. I must have tried 6 - 8 different things before hitting on this solution.
I suspect that if the zigzag were narrow enough and the thread fine enough I could completely encase it (turn under twice) and not add any unwanted bulk to the hem. I still need to work on my corners before I embark on a scarf, however.
Earlier today I also made some simple curtains for the kitchen.
This window gets the afternoon sun, and therefore lets in the most heat. I hope this window treatment will help reflect heat back out while letting light in.
Hey! I did some stash busting today. Both of these fabrics have been languishing for years and years. The scraps of the "gold" can go in the crazy quilt stash and there is quite a bit of the linen left to make a shirt or quilt lining or something....hopefully before many more years pass by.
