Company Holiday Party Fabric

Having had a rare flash of sanity, I decided not to attempt three fabrics. Getting two solids and a print that are dead on harmonious within the time I have and without breaking the bank is just too stressful!

Today the first of the chiffon fabrics arrived! The Farmhouse velvet, velveteen and sateens arrived first (last week) with the Radiance samples from Fabric.com shortly thereafter.

If this is the chiffon that I use -- I still want to see the other first before I decide-- I will use this cotton sateen with it.

Yeah, its a little matchy, but better to err on the safe side of things rather than hear about how silly you looked for the next year.

Up close the violet purple sateen or Radiance was my choice, but as soon as I stepped back and looked at it, I knew the blue was it. In fact, when I tested the purple from a distance, it clashed.

The fabric is (as described) very sheer. So what ever color is behind it changes the way the colors of the print pop (or recede).

I toyed with the idea of underlining (Hong Kong style) it in plain black chiffon for two reasons: 1) because of the color pop thing, and, 2) I think it would look nicer than the seam finish the pattern calls for.

Now I just have to try actually making this pattern modification to see if it will really work.

Notes on the fabrics:

Both are lovely. Seriously nice.
The Farmhouse sateen (100% cotton) is just a little heavier than the Radiance (cotton/silk blend).
Both have a nice sheen to them, with the Radiance being the most so, due to the silk. I will definitely be watching for sales on this fabric to make blouses.
Either could be used to make lightweight suits. Both have a polished, classy look to them.
If I can find it closer to Ambiance prices, I will scoop up some Radiance for suit linings.

In other news: Hong Kong Knitting Machines decided to keep the returned cards and the money I paid. I had to file a claim through Pay Pal to get my refund. I am out the postage I spent sending the wrong cards back to them. So here is my Public Service Announcement: these people are crooks.
